The Cairns Bhutanese Community (CBC) is a Nepali-speaking individual who made Cairns home in Far North Queensland, Australia. Since its establishment in 2008, CBC has been dedicated to fostering connections between Bhutanese people and the broader Australian community, preserving our culture and traditions, and assisting new arrivals in their settlement and integration into Australian society.
Our celebrations include Dashain and Deepawali, Bhanu Jayanti, Teej, and CBC Day(which marks the anniversary of the first Bhutanese settlement in Cairns). These events are a showcase of traditional Bhutanese/Nepali culture, featuring music, dance, and cuisine, and they play a crucial role in maintaining cultural heritage and promoting cultural exchange.
Members of the community made significant contributions to the Australian community through different professions: engineers in a government department, aeronautical and engineering officers at the defence force, nurses, and entrepreneurs. Our efforts have not only enriched the cultural diversity of Cairns but have also contributed significantly to the economic and social development of the area.
